13,000 Tickets has helped?
Running since 2008 the photo radar program seems to only of had a marginal effect on safety. That is the reason for photo radar, right. According to a study by the city of Milwaukie, it isn’t very clear if photo radar has had the desired effect of making the streets a safer place. Some numbers do indicate that accidents are down on Hwy 224. The city seems to be happy with the program; it frees up their officers to deal with other, more important issues. Milwaukie photo radar; Safety or $$?
There is an article on Oregon Live discussing the 13,000 tickets issued by Milwaukie Police. Raising once again wether or not photo radar is a money generator or, as they say, for safety.
I believe that all of the cities start out with the intention of generating revenue. They will always preach that it is all in the name of safety. That way when the number of tickets issued doesn’t cover the cost of the program, they still have justification to continue another money losing program.

Beaverton van not in compliance
For anyone who receives a ticket from Beaverton taken on 6/16/10 at 9800 SW Beaverton-Hillsdale Hwy.
You should know that the van was not in compliance with Oregon Statutes. They require that the signage be placed at a minimum of 100 yards.
Tonight the signage was placed at only 90 yards. If anyone needs picture evidence to present if they go to court, here you go.
Hillsboro says “No” to red light camera
The City of Hillsboro has decided to break their contract with Redflex and not install a red light camera. They were afraid of the “image” it would give Hillsboro. Read the story on Oregonlive. How about that, their image is worth more than the cash they would produce from the camera.
Portland van not in compliance
Temporary Portland Van not in Compliance?
On Dec 9th at about 11 AM we happen to notice a van on NE Halsey that appeared to be a temporary photo radar van. If this van was issuing tickets (which appeared to be doing with the flashes as vehicles passed by) wasn’t in compliance with ORS 810.439 (C) An indication of the actual speed of the vehicle is displayed within 150 feet of the location of the photo radar unit.
Here’s the pic:
So, if you know anyone who received a ticket with the van not displaying the actual speed of the vehicles; you may get out of the ticket based on the city not obeying the Oregon Statutes. If you received a ticket, or know someone who did with this van, send us an e-mail.
